Barmers Giral Lignite Mines Protest Gains Momentum as MLA Writes Blood Letter to Amit Shah

Barmer, May 24: The ongoing protest by local workers outside the Giral Lignite Mines in Barmer, Rajasthan, has become a hot topic of discussion across the state. The movement gained further attention as independent MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati has been camped at the protest site for nearly 20 days. Recently, after an attempted self-immolation at the district collectorate, protesters wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah using their own blood, aiming to convey their demands and grievances directly to the central government.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the Bikaner division of Rajasthan on May 25 and 26. Meanwhile, on Sunday, workers at the protest site drew blood using needles to write their demands and hardships on paper. The protesters describe this as a fight for the rights of local youth and workers.

Local Employment and Labor Laws at the Center of the Protest
Under the leadership of MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati, the protesters’ primary demands include prioritizing local laborers and drivers for employment, implementing an 8-hour legal shift, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and enforcing previously made written agreements.

Protesters allege that the new contractor has started hiring individuals from outside states instead of local youth. Additionally, they claim that workers are being forced to work extra hours without receiving full overtime pay. Representatives of the protesters assert that agreements made in the presence of the administration have not been honored.

On the other hand, representatives from the contractor company, Shri Mohangarh Construction Company, led by Manohar Singh Pabda, denied the allegations, stating that the company operates according to regulations and pays employees based on their qualifications and skills. The company claims that some demands are beyond the scope of regulations and are being pushed through pressure tactics.

Bhati Calls It a Fight for Dignity and Rights of the Poor
Independent MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati sharply reacted to claims that the protest is a political stunt. He emphasized that this is a fight for the dignity of poor laborers and local families. Bhati stated that if the government and administration had listened to the workers’ demands in a timely manner, they would not have had to resort to writing a letter to the Home Minister with their blood.

He accused local administration and certain political figures of trying to suppress the issue. Bhati noted that people from all walks of life and ideologies are participating in the protest, which is fundamentally a struggle for workers’ rights.

Questions Raised About Administrative Role
As the protest continues, questions are being raised about the role of the administration. Protesters claim that a committee was formed under the chairmanship of the Shiv sub-divisional officer, but no concrete solutions have emerged so far. The administration has stated that discussions between both parties are ongoing and that a resolution will be reached soon.

With Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Rajasthan approaching, this protest is now considered significant at both political and administrative levels. All eyes are on the government’s and administration’s next steps regarding this matter in the coming days.
