New Delhi: Good news for residents of Bihar — the long-awaited monsoon has officially arrived in the state, bringing relief from the intense summer heat. Several regions of Bihar witnessed heavy rainfall on Wednesday, accompanied by a significant drop in temperature. However, the rains have also led to waterlogging in various areas, creating challenges for daily life.

The southwest monsoon is now advancing swiftly across Bihar. Strong winds are also blowing through several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts in the coming days.
Districts Under Heavy Rain Alert
According to IMD forecasts, the following districts are likely to witness heavy rain with thunderstorms:
-
Bhagalpur
-
Banka
-
Jamui
-
Araria
-
Katihar
-
Purnia
-
Kishanganj
-
West Champaran
Residents in these areas have been advised to exercise caution, especially due to the risk of lightning strikes and strong winds expected to reach speeds of 40–50 km/h. Apart from heavy showers, moderate rainfall is also predicted for several surrounding districts.
Flood Management Measures Strengthened
With monsoon rains intensifying, the Bihar administration has already stepped up preparations to tackle potential flood situations:
-
Construction of flood outposts is underway in vulnerable zones.
-
Sites are being earmarked for relief camps in case evacuations are required.
-
Authorities have directed that food supplies, medicines, clean drinking water, toilets, lighting, and other essential services be arranged at these camps in advance.
In recent years, flooding has caused widespread damage in many parts of Bihar. Hence, the state government and local administrations are making proactive preparations this year to mitigate risks and protect affected communities.
Monsoon Delayed, but Picking Up Pace
While the monsoon was initially expected to arrive earlier this year, its progress had slowed. Now, with favorable conditions returning, monsoon clouds are expected to cover the entire state in the coming days — bringing much-needed rain for farmers and relief for residents.
Stay tuned for further weather updates as the season progresses.
