DANTEWADA, April 12 In a major success for anti-Naxal operations, two Naxals were neutralized in an encounter with security forces in the dense forests of Indravati Tiger Reserve, located on the Dantewada-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. The joint operation was conducted by personnel from both districts, following intelligence reports of Naxalite movement in the region.

Joint Forces Strike in Indravati Forest
According to Bastar Range IG Sundarraj P., security forces engaged Naxals in a fierce gun battle during the early hours. “Two Naxals have been killed in the encounter. Their bodies and weapons have been recovered. All personnel involved in the operation are safe,” he confirmed.
The operation was carried out after specific intelligence indicated the presence of armed Naxals inside the Indravati Tiger Reserve, a known Naxalite stronghold. The reserve’s rugged terrain and forest cover often provide shelter to Naxal cadres operating in the area.
Coordinated Operation by Dantewada and Bijapur Police
Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said this was a joint operation between the security teams of Dantewada and Bijapur districts. “Troops were immediately dispatched after receiving inputs on Naxal activity. The operation zone is being combed as part of an extensive search mission,” he stated.
Rai also indicated that the Naxal camp suffered significant losses, though the total count of casualties may rise as the search and combing operations are still ongoing in the deep forest.
Naxal Presence and Ongoing Security Push
The Dantewada-Bijapur corridor is among the most sensitive zones in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division, where several high-profile operations have taken place in the past. The security forces have recently intensified their presence in the region, ahead of upcoming national events and in preparation for the summer movement of Naxal groups.
This successful operation adds to the growing list of coordinated strikes carried out by police and paramilitary forces, reflecting a sharper, intelligence-driven approach to combating left-wing extremism in the state.
