In a decisive statement that puts an end to weeks of speculation, Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner confirmed that Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen will remain with the team through the 2026 season. Speaking during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Horner dismissed ongoing rumors of Verstappen potentially leaving Red Bull for rival teams.
Christian Horner Ends Exit Speculation
Reports had emerged suggesting Verstappen might invoke his exit clause amid internal unrest at Red Bull following concerns raised by Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko. Rumors linked the Dutch driver to Mercedes and Aston Martin, with potential record-breaking contract offers allegedly on the table.
Addressing the speculation, Horner told Sky Sports, “There’s a lot of noise outside the team. Max reiterated his commitment yesterday. We’re focused on improving the car, and Max is an integral part of that mission. Everything else is just speculation.”
Aston Martin’s $88 Million Offer Dismissed
Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport had previously reported that Aston Martin, backed by Saudi investment, was willing to offer Verstappen $88 million per year on a three-year deal starting in 2026. However, Aston Martin Team Principal Andy Cowell clarified that their current focus is on Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll for the upcoming seasons.
Mercedes Not a Likely Destination
Meanwhile, former Mercedes strategist and current Williams team boss James Vowles shut down rumors of Verstappen moving to Mercedes. “Max is an exceptional driver, but he brings complexities. Mercedes has a great team culture and two excellent drivers. I don’t see a place for him there,” Vowles stated.
Red Bull’s Bahrain Meeting Wasn’t a ‘Crisis Summit’
There were also reports of a so-called “crisis meeting” within the Red Bull camp after the Bahrain Grand Prix. Horner rebuffed the claims, explaining, “Reviewing a race with your engineering team doesn’t qualify as a crisis meeting. We’re aware of the issues with the car and are planning several upgrades in upcoming races to address them.”
With Red Bull maintaining its leadership in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships, Verstappen’s confirmed stay through 2026 further stabilizes the team’s long-term trajectory.
