Scorching Heatwave Grips Madhya Pradesh: Temperatures Soar Beyond 44°C in Several Districts

Bhopal, April 19 A severe heatwave is sweeping across Madhya Pradesh, with temperatures crossing the 44°C mark in several districts. Khajuraho, Guna, and Nowgong emerged as the hottest places in the state, while major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur also recorded their highest temperatures of the season.

Heatwave Intensifies Across Central INDIA

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the rise in temperatures is attributed to dry and hot winds blowing across the region. Since early morning, the sun has been blazing, and temperatures have been climbing steeply post noon, leading to sweltering days and unusually warm nights.

On Friday, Chhatarpur district recorded the highest temperatures, with Khajuraho at 44.6°C and Nowgong at 44°C. Guna closely followed at 44.3°C. Other scorching cities include:

  • Ratlam, Sagar, Sidhi: 43.8°C

  • Damoh: 43.6°C

  • Satna, Shajapur: 43.1°C

  • Narmadapuram, Rewa: 42.6°C

  • Tikamgarh: 42.3°C

  • Shivpuri, Raisen, Mandla: 42°C

  • Dhar: 41.9°C

  • Umaria: 41.7°C

  • Khargone: 41.4°C

  • Malajkhand: 41°C

  • Seoni: 40.4°C

  • Betul: 40.2°C

  • Khandwa: 40.1°C

  • Chhindwara: 40°C

Major Cities Also Reel Under Heat

Even major urban centers were not spared. Gwalior reported the highest among them at 43°C, followed by:

  • Ujjain: 42.8°C

  • Bhopal: 42.2°C

  • Jabalpur: 42.1°C

  • Indore: 41.7°C

For the first time this season, 28 cities recorded temperatures of 40°C or higher — a rare and concerning phenomenon in the state’s summer calendar.

Forecast Suggests No Relief Ahead

The weather department has warned that these harsh conditions are likely to persist over the coming days. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions to combat heatstroke.
