The IMD’s latest advisory warns that pre-monsoon showers have stalled, particularly in parts of Uttar Pradesh, resulting in dry and hot conditions spreading across northern INDIA. The forecast indicates that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail through June 12, with the maximum temperature climbing steadily each day.
Delhi to Sizzle This Weekend
The national capital is in for an exceptionally hot weekend, with no signs of rain in sight. On Saturday (June 7), Delhi recorded a high of 38.2°C, which was surprisingly 1.8°C below the seasonal average. However, this brief spell of relief will end soon. The minimum temperature on Friday settled at 25.6°C, also below normal, but both maximum and minimum readings are expected to rise sharply starting today.
According to IMD projections:
-
June 8: Maximum temperature could reach 40-42°C
-
June 9: Expected to rise further to 41-43°C
-
June 10–12: Temperature may climb up to 44°C in some areas
Residents are advised to take precautionary measures, avoid prolonged sun exposure, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable individuals, especially the elderly and children.
Rising Temperatures Across Northern India
The heatwave isn’t limited to Delhi alone. States like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh are also expected to experience soaring temperatures. Weather conditions across these states are forecast to remain dry, and no immediate signs of monsoon relief are evident.
In Uttar Pradesh, clear skies and dry weather are expected to continue across most regions. While parts of eastern UP saw moderate rainfall and light drizzle in the past 24 hours, the weather is now shifting toward an extended dry spell. The southern districts of UP are likely to be hit hardest, with temperatures set to rise by 5–6°C in the coming days.
No Respite from the Heat
Despite early signs of the monsoon in some parts of India, northern regions are yet to see consistent rainfall activity. The ongoing heatwave is likely to increase energy demands, strain public health systems, and elevate the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Authorities are urging residents to:
-
Stay indoors during peak afternoon hours
-
Use cooling aids like fans, ACs, and ORS solutions
-
Wear light, breathable clothing
-
Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the daytime
The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates as the monsoon system progresses.
