Bhilwara, March 6, 2026 (Daily Udaipur): A tragic incident occurred in the Kotwali police station area of Bhilwara on Friday morning when an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) died after his service revolver accidentally fired while he was unloading it at home.

The deceased policeman has been identified as Mahavir Singh, who was posted as an ASI at Kotwali police station. According to information, he had recently been promoted from the post of Head Constable to Assistant Sub-Inspector.
The incident took place around 10 am when Mahavir Singh was at his residence removing bullets from his service revolver. He had already taken out three bullets while attempting to safely unload the weapon. However, while removing the fourth bullet, the revolver suddenly fired and the bullet struck his head.
Hearing the sound of the gunshot, people nearby rushed to the house and a crowd gathered at the spot within a short time. On receiving information, Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh and the Kotwali police team reached the scene.
Police conducted photography and videography at the site and started an investigation. The body was later kept in the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital.
Mahavir Singh’s cousin Tejpratap Singh said that the ASI had returned home in the morning after night duty. After reaching home, he asked for tea and began unloading the bullets from his service revolver, saying that keeping a loaded revolver at home was not safe.
