Congress Promises Better Policies for Youth and Families: Y.S. Sharmila Reddy

Amaravati, March 7: Y.S. Sharmila Reddy, the head of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, has strongly criticized Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu‘s recent statement about incentivizing families with 25,000 rupees for having more children. Sharmila highlighted the dire situation in the state, calling the promise ludicrous, especially when the current youth are struggling to find jobs and secure their futures.

Sharmila pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is in a pitiable state compared to neighboring states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra, which boast robust capitals such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai, offering ample development and facilities. In contrast, she noted that Andhra Pradesh lacks a decent capital, leaving its citizens empty-handed and without a solid foundation. She questioned where the children of the state would find jobs and what their future holds. Many graduates are wandering the streets, forced to drive autos or take up menial jobs to survive. Who is addressing the challenges faced by these youth? There is no security or assurance for their future.

Targeting the Chief Minister, Sharmila remarked that Naidu suggests that having two children is insufficient and encourages families to have three, four, or even five children. She questioned the rationale behind this advice when the current youth lack direction and support. Naidu’s proposal of a 25,000 rupee reward for having more children raises concerns. Are people expected to have children solely for this financial incentive?

Sharmila also raised issues regarding the government’s policies, noting that the Arogya Sri health scheme has an outstanding debt of 3,000 crores, and the fee reimbursement scheme is owed 6,000 crores. Since Naidu took office, electricity prices have surged, placing an additional burden of 15,000 crores on the people within just two years.

Despite these pressing issues, the Chief Minister continues to assert that the current number of children is inadequate and that families should have more in exchange for 25,000 rupees. Sharmila urged the public to reflect on the type of leadership governing the state. She stated that this promise is merely an attempt to divert attention from the real problems facing the state. The Congress leader pledged that her party would introduce better policies focusing on jobs, health, and education for the youth and families of Andhra Pradesh.
