UNICEF Officials Meet with Udaipur Police to Discuss Child Protection Initiatives

Udaipur, March 17: A delegation of senior UNICEF officials visited Udaipur to study ongoing child protection efforts. On Tuesday, they met with Inspector General of Police, Mr. Gaurav Srivastava, in a courtesy meeting. Udaipur‘s Superintendent of Police, Yogesh Goyal, and Rajsamand’s Superintendent of Police, Hemant Kalal, were also present.

The UNICEF delegation included Chief Milan Kidane, Mental Health Specialist Jyoti, Rajasthan Head Lakshmi Narsimhar Rao, Child Protection Specialist Sanjay Kumar Nirala, Child Protection Officer Himali Leuwa, and Child Protection Advisor Sindhu Binujit from the Udaipur range.

During the meeting, officials engaged in detailed discussions on various issues concerning child safety, education, and overall development. They praised the police administration’s efforts in protecting children’s rights, eliminating child labor, and preventing child-related crimes, including cybercrime.

Inspector General Srivastava commended UNICEF’s initiatives, emphasizing the need for coordination between administration and international organizations for the protection of children and their secure future.

UNICEF is making significant strides in child protection at the range level. The officials noted that, with UNICEF’s support, the police department is enhancing the capabilities of its personnel and related units, such as Safety Sakhi, Police Mitra, and Gram Rakshak, through various training programs and awareness activities.

They also shared information about innovative initiatives linking youth Community-Led Groups (CLGs) to skills development, a road safety awareness campaign in Banswara, and recent training on cybersecurity awareness. The officials suggested that UNICEF develop an action plan for the continuous organization of such programs. They assured that the police department would provide all possible support in matters related to child protection.
