Udaipur, March 18: In a recent address at the closing ceremony of the Vice-Chancellors’ Conference for Western Region Universities, Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Professor Vasudev Devnani emphasized the need to advance beyond the ‘Make in India’ initiative. He advocated for adopting the mantra ‘Design and Develop in India’ to propel the nation towards development.
Devnani spoke at the Lotus County Hotel in Debari, where the conference focused on self-reliant India through indigenous economic nationalism and technological nationalism.
He highlighted that ancient India had self-sufficient villages that served as centers for production, knowledge, and self-reliance. Citing examples such as Takshashila and Nalanda universities, ancient surgeon Sushruta, and the invention of zero and the decimal system, he painted a vivid picture of India’s rich knowledge tradition.
According to Devnani, the concept of a unified field in modern physics is inspired by the Vedic principle of ‘Aham Brahmasmi.’ He described ‘Local for Vocal’ as the foundation of a self-reliant India, which will lead to economic nationalism. He stressed the importance of achieving technical proficiency and full production within India while moving forward with the ‘Design and Develop in India’ initiative.
Devnani noted that India, which was the 11th largest economy in 2014, has now risen to the fourth position and is on track to become the third largest soon. He urged that instead of calling India a superpower, it should be seen as a guiding force, aiming to lead the world towards human welfare rather than seeking dominance.
The closing ceremony was chaired by Professor Vinay Kumar Pathak, with distinguished guests including Atul Kothari, Rajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Dr. Pankaj Mittal in attendance.
Inspiring the Next Generation through University Leadership
Devnani stressed the importance of educating the younger generation about the greatness of ancient Indian knowledge. He highlighted the crucial role of university vice-chancellors, as they are central to the universities’ mission. By embodying the spirit of nationalism in their conduct, they can create a positive environment in universities, inspiring the youth to contribute to national development. He expressed that the benefits of PhD research should reach the most marginalized individuals, emphasizing that India’s future lies in its villages and that universities will play a vital role in shaping that future.
