Controversy Surrounds Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Katarias Frequent Udaipur Visits Daily Udaipur

Udaipur, March 29: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria is facing controversy due to his frequent visits to his hometown, Udaipur. Dr. Vijay Viplavi, a local lawyer and former councilor, has sent a detailed complaint to President Droupadi Murmu, raising serious questions about the governor’s conduct. The complaint alleges that since taking office, Kataria spends nearly a week or more in Udaipur each month, impacting local administration and daily life.

The letter states that during his visits, the entire administrative machinery and security apparatus of the city become active, disrupting the activities of ordinary citizens and causing traffic jams due to VIP protocols.

Dr. Viplavi claims that Kataria’s behavior resembles that of an active politician, which he argues is inconsistent with constitutional norms. Specifically, holding public hearings at the Circuit House and directing local officials is deemed beyond the governor’s jurisdiction. Additionally, the complaint criticizes Kataria for inaugurating minor municipal projects, such as the renovation of tempo stand sheds, and sharing the stage at university convocation ceremonies, which is considered inappropriate.

The complaint also references previous controversies involving Kataria, including a disputed comment about Maharana Pratap and allegations of protecting his associates in land disputes. Dr. Viplavi has urged the President to issue necessary guidelines to uphold the dignity of the governor’s office. He suggested that if Kataria’s presence in Udaipur is essential, he should be appointed as the Governor of Gujarat, allowing him to fulfill his constitutional duties while remaining close to his hometown. Copies of this complaint have also been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Governor of Rajasthan, bringing the issue into the political spotlight.
