Jaipur, October 3: Sachin Pilot, former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and in-charge of Punjab for the Congress party, has congratulated Pargat Singh on his appointment as the new President of the Punjab Congress. In a late-night social media post on Friday, Pilot expressed his confidence that under Singh’s leadership, the party will perform exceptionally well in the upcoming assembly elections.
“I extend my congratulations and best wishes to Pargat Singh, the newly appointed President of the Punjab Congress Committee. I hope that under your leadership, the party will achieve remarkable success in the forthcoming assembly elections,” Pilot stated.
Pilot further emphasized that the responsibility of conveying the thoughts of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi now rests on the new state president.
Pargat Singh was appointed as the President of the Punjab Congress Committee on Friday, the same day that the outgoing president, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, formally submitted his resignation to Rahul Gandhi.
Pargat Singh, a former captain of the Indian hockey team, is also a legislator from Jalandhar Cantonment.
Importance of Pilot’s Role in This Appointment
Pilot serves as the All India Congress Committee’s in-charge general secretary for Punjab. This means he is responsible for building the organization in the state alongside the new president and formulating strategies for the assembly elections. Thus, the change in the state president is directly linked to Pilot’s responsibilities.
Leadership from Rajasthan in Punjab Politics
The role of leaders from Rajasthan in Punjab’s politics is particularly significant this time. Sachin Pilot is in charge for the Congress, while the BJP has appointed Dr. Satish Punia, a former state president and Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, as its in-charge for Punjab. Dr. Alka Gurjar, also a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, serves as co-in-charge.
This means that in the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, the strategic leadership of both major parties will be in the hands of leaders from Rajasthan, which could also influence the political landscape in Rajasthan.
