Jaipur, October 12: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced its candidates for the Jaipur District Council elections. Out of a total of 57 wards, candidates have been declared for 55, leaving wards 33 and 56 still pending. The last date for nominations is October 13, providing only one day for candidates to submit their applications after the announcement.
In the first phase, voting will take place in 22 wards of the district council, although this list encompasses all 57 wards. The results for the district council and panchayat committee members will be declared on November 20, separate from the sarpanch results.
The nomination pace is noteworthy. On October 12, a total of 43 nominations were filed for the Jaipur District Council, comprising 9 from the BJP, 25 from the Congress, and 9 from other parties. Additionally, 175 nominations were received for eight panchayat committees on the same day. These figures represent a single day’s data and cannot be directly compared to the party’s announcements, as the declaration and the filing of nominations are distinct phases.
Rajesh Gurjar and Ward 18
Rajesh Gurjar, the district president for Jaipur South, has been nominated from ward 22, which is categorized as OBC Open. Gurjar is considered close to the Chief Minister, and his nomination has sparked discussions in political circles about his potential candidacy for district chief if the BJP secures a majority in the council. However, no official statement has been made by the party regarding this speculation.
The incumbent district chief has been re-nominated from ward 18, with Rama Chhappar’s name appearing on the party’s list for this unreserved open ward.
Reservation Dynamics — Half of the Seats Reserved for Women
A significant aspect of the announcement is that 28 out of the 57 wards in the Jaipur District Council are reserved for women. Ward 57 is not included in the reservation category list; among the 56 listed wards, exactly half, or 28, are reserved for women. This equates to approximately 49 percent of the total wards.
It is also noted that ward 27 is categorized simply as “SC,” without any mention of women or open status, hence it is not counted as reserved for women. Similarly, no category is listed for ward 57, resulting in its absence from the table.
In summary: 57 wards, 55 candidates declared, 28 reserved for women.
Total wards: 57 · Candidates declared: 55 · Pending announcements: 2 (wards 33 and 56) · Reserved for women: 28 · Unreserved: 29, SC: 10, OBC: 9, ST: 8.
