Congress Criticism: ‘Ecosystem is Fighting Among Itself’
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to X to express concerns over the sudden acceptance of Dhankhar’s resignation by the Prime Minister and Home Minister on July 21, 2025. He noted that Dhankhar had been elected to the position just three years prior.
“On July 21, 2025, the Prime Minister and Home Minister accepted Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation in mere minutes, despite having elected him to the position three years earlier,” Ramesh stated.
Ramesh further pointed out that Dhankhar has been critical of the government’s neglect of farmers’ demands and has yet to receive the government housing he is entitled to. He suggested that the RSS invitation indicates internal conflicts within the ecosystem. As of now, there has been no response from the government or the BJP regarding these allegations. Dhankhar has also remained silent on the invitation.
Details of the Resignation
Dhankhar unexpectedly resigned from his position as Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman on July 21, 2025. In his letter to the President, he stated that he was resigning under Article 67(c) of the Constitution with immediate effect.
“I am resigning from the position of Vice President of India with immediate effect to prioritize my health and follow my doctors’ advice,” Dhankhar wrote in his resignation letter.
Dhankhar assumed office on August 11, 2022, with a term set to last until August 10, 2027. At the time of his resignation, nearly two years of his term remained.
Dhankhar’s Response to Health Concerns
Dhankhar has previously objected to linking his resignation to health issues. In February, during an event in Sadulpur, Churu district, he clarified that he did not claim to be ill when resigning; he merely emphasized the importance of prioritizing health, which he believes everyone should do. He stated that valuing health is not a sign of weakness. In July of this year, he underwent angioplasty at a hospital in Jaipur.
Completion of RSS’s Centenary Year
The RSS was founded on Vijayadashami day in 1925 in Nagpur, making this ceremony an annual celebration of its establishment. The centenary year began last Vijayadashami and will conclude with this event on October 20.
