BJP Leader Clarifies Controversial Statement on Pakistan Amid Cricket Context

Jaipur, October 16: BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore has clarified his recent comments regarding Pakistan, stating that they were made in the context of a cricket match between India and Pakistan. He accused critics of distorting his remarks. Rathore described the situation as a conspiracy, claiming that clips of his speech were taken out of context and circulated to misrepresent his views.

“I spoke about a cricket match between India and Pakistan, but my statement was misrepresented, which is entirely inappropriate,” Rathore asserted.

In an interview with ANI, Rathore explained that during a program commemorating former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s birthday, he discussed patriotism in the presence of members from the Muslim community. He illustrated his point by saying that if India were to lose a cricket match against Pakistan, those celebrating with firecrackers are not true patriots. He added that the context would differ if the match were between the U.S. and Pakistan.

“Our stance is clear. It is wrong to twist comments made about a cricket match. There was no mention of war; it was solely about the match,” Rathore emphasized.

He further stated that the relationship with Pakistan is one of animosity, as it harbors and trains terrorists, making any form of cooperation impossible. Rathore reiterated that snippets of his speech, lasting two to ten seconds, were taken out of context.

The controversy erupted after Rathore’s comments at the event in Jaipur. According to ANI, he remarked that if a conflict arose between the U.S. and Pakistan, India would side with Pakistan as a neighbor. However, in the event of a conflict between India and Pakistan, he affirmed that India would always come first. He also spoke about patriotism, national unity, and empowering citizens, referencing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statements on religious harmony, urging that people should not be divided based on religion.

Following his remarks, both the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress criticized the BJP. The Aam Aadmi Party took to social media, questioning the BJP’s stance on nationalism when their leader appeared to support Pakistan. Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohammed also targeted Rathore on social media, inquiring about the actions being taken in response to his comments.

Rathore has been in the spotlight recently for his statements. Earlier this week, he challenged Ashok Gehlot, questioning whether he supports Sachin Pilot, and raised concerns about Rahul Gandhi‘s conduct regarding the dignity of the Leader of Opposition.
