Patna, April 7 The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across 32 districts of Bihar for April 10 and 11. The weather is expected to take a sharp turn due to an active Western Disturbance, with several regions likely to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds over the coming days.

IMD Predicts Thunderstorms, Lightning & Gusty Winds
According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, the impact of the approaching western disturbance will lead to widespread changes in weather conditions across Bihar. As per the forecast, wind speeds may reach up to 30-40 km/h, posing risks of structural damage and disrupting day-to-day activities.
The IMD alert has been issued for nearly the entire state, excluding only six districts. The regions under the weather warning include:
Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Aurangabad, Begusarai, Jehanabad, Nawada, Nalanda, Munger, Saran, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, West Champaran, Madhubani, Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar, Saharsa, Supaul, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Sheikhpura, Samastipur, Sheohar, Banka, and Madhepura.
Rain Likely Due to Active Western Disturbance
The meteorological office noted that a Western Disturbance is currently becoming active and its effects are anticipated to reach Bihar by April 7, lasting through April 11. As a result, most parts of the state are expected to witness changing weather patterns, including scattered to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning.
The yellow alert means people should remain cautious, especially in rural and agricultural areas.
Advisory for Farmers and Residents
Given the possibility of lightning and strong winds, the IMD has urged farmers to avoid working in open fields during this period and to safeguard harvested crops and equipment. The authorities also advise residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms and take precautions to minimize weather-related damage.
