BJP MP Ramesh Awasthi Advocates For Bharat Ratna For Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Daily Udaipur

New Delhi, March 29: During the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, BJP MP Ramesh Awasthi from Kanpur strongly advocated for the posthumous honor of Bharat Ratna for the great revolutionary, fearless journalist, and symbol of communal harmony, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi.

Awasthi emphasized that Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi raised a fearless voice against the injustices and atrocities of British rule through his renowned newspaper ‘Pratap‘, significantly strengthening the freedom movement. He played a crucial role in the fight for the nation’s independence by providing ideological and moral support to many revolutionaries, including Bhagat Singh.

Recalling the communal riots in Kanpur on March 25, 1931, Awasthi noted that Vidyarthi sacrificed his life while saving innocent people without regard for his own safety. Mahatma Gandhi paid tribute to his martyrdom, expressing a wish that he too could have met such a death while saving thousands of lives.

Awasthi also mentioned that Gandhi had stated that if anyone were to be a candidate for the first Prime Minister of independent India, it would be Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi. He called for the beautification of Vidyarthi’s martyrdom site, the construction of a grand memorial and a memory garden, and the restoration of the historic ‘Pratap Press’ to develop it as a national journalism museum. Additionally, he suggested erecting a statue of Vidyarthi in both the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and the Lok Sabha premises.

He concluded by stating that Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi’s life and sacrifice serve as an inspiration for the nation, and it is our duty to honor him with the Bharat Ratna during this Amrit Kaal of independence.
