In celebration of World Theatre Day, the Western Region Cultural Centre in Udaipur staged a powerful performance of the play ‘Parasai ka Sansar’ at the Darpan Auditorium in Shilpgram on Friday, March 27. The auditorium was filled to capacity, and the audience greatly appreciated this impactful presentation.
Dr. Ashwin Dalvi, director of the Western Region Cultural Centre, shared that the 40-day theatre workshop, which began on February 20, featured participants trained by renowned theatre artists, including Professor Suresh Sharma, former director of the National School of Drama in New Delhi and the North Central Zone Cultural Centre in Prayagraj. The participants worked diligently to learn the play, which included acting, dialogue, and stage design, and presented it on stage for the first time. The production was directed by Professor Suresh Sharma, who is honored by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, with Tanay Vivek Pandey serving as the assistant director.
Under Professor Sharma’s expert direction, the performance emerged as a powerful theatrical creation, showcasing emotions, gestures, symbols, and acting. All participants delivered commendable performances. Mahboob Hussain played the harmonium, while Tushar Rao accompanied on the dholak.
The theatre enthusiasts praised the Western Region Cultural Centre for this initiative and expressed gratitude for such events. At the conclusion of the program, certificates were distributed to all participants, wishing them a bright future.
Notable attendees included Pawan Amarawat, Deputy Director (Programs), Durgesh Chandwani, Assistant Director (Finance and Accounts), Chief Engineer C.L. Salvi, and several esteemed guests from the city. The event was hosted by Dr. Mohita Dixit.
It is noteworthy that ‘Parasai ka Sansar’ is based on the works of the renowned satirist Harishankar Parsai, presenting sharp and insightful satire on contemporary social issues. The performance included adaptations of his works such as “Nithalle Ki Diary,” “Ramsingh Ki Training,” and “Rani Nagfani Ki Kahani” (a novella).
