Ajmer, April 2: Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra has leveled serious allegations against the state government and the Election Commission regarding the OBC Commission. He has called for the immediate dissolution of the commission, claiming that the intentions of both the government and the state Election Commission are questionable. Dotasra emphasized that there is a blatant violation of clear directives from the High Court, which raises concerns for the democratic framework. This statement was made during a public meeting organized under the campaign “Expand Organization, Save Democracy.”
He pointed out that the High Court had issued explicit instructions on November 14, 2025, mandating that elections for local bodies be conducted by April 15, 2026. However, he accused the government of ignoring this order. Dotasra noted that while the court has set a timeline, the state Election Commission is planning to release the final voter list on April 22, indicating that elections are being deliberately postponed. He stated that if the OBC Commission has not prepared a survey report within a year, it should be dissolved immediately.
Dotasra further accused the BJP government of attempting to undermine democracy by using the OBC report as an excuse to delay local body elections. He responded to Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar’s statements, reminding that after the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments in 1993, local bodies were granted constitutional status, making it mandatory to hold elections every five years. He asserted that there has been no tradition of delaying elections in Rajasthan, except in extraordinary circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, which was permitted by the Supreme Court.
He concluded by stating that given the current situation, where the court is directing elections to be held, the government’s failure to conduct them is contrary to democratic values. Dotasra demanded that the government initiate the election process immediately and uphold constitutional integrity.
