There is an important update for all Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) subscribers. If you have not yet activated your Universal Account Number (UAN) or linked your Aadhaar to your bank account, you must complete this process before the June 30, 2025 deadline. Failure to do so could mean missing out on benefits under the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme.

EPFO has made it mandatory for employees to activate their UAN and link their bank accounts with Aadhaar to qualify for the ELI Scheme benefits. The scheme aims to extend insurance and employment incentives to both unorganized sector and contractual workers. Without a valid UAN activation, salaried employees will not be eligible for these advantages.
Why Is the UAN So Important?
The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a crucial identifier for every EPFO subscriber. Once linked with Aadhaar and activated on the EPFO member portal, it allows employees to access various services through a single online window. Without UAN activation, subscribers cannot use the online facilities offered by EPFO.
Key Benefits of an Activated UAN
-
Check PF balance anytime
-
Download the employee PF passbook
-
Transfer funds between PF accounts
-

-
Submit online claims for advances or transfers
-
Update personal details quickly
-

These features ensure easy management of your Provident Fund account.
Understanding the ELI Scheme
The ELI Scheme, announced in the Union Budget for FY 2024-25, consists of three schemes (A, B, and C) designed to boost employment generation in India. The primary objective is to create new jobs and provide support to both employees and employers.

With a planned outlay of ₹2 lakh crore over five years, the ELI Scheme aims to generate 4.1 crore employment opportunities. In the first two years alone, the government targets the creation of over 2 crore new jobs, alongside promoting skill development and enhancing job prospects for youth.
