Udaipur, April 5: The Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department, Banswara, Devi Singh Beniwal, conducted an inspection of the construction works for the Devas Third and Fourth projects on Saturday.
During the inspection, the Chief Engineer stated that the implementation of these projects will ensure the long-term drinking water needs of Udaipur city. Additionally, it will help maintain the water levels of the Pichola, Fatehsagar, and other local lakes, thereby stabilizing tourism, the environment, and ecological balance.
As part of this initiative, the Devas Third project proposes the construction of a dam with a capacity of 703 MCF of water near Nathiyathal village in Gogunda tehsil of Udaipur district. A 10.50-kilometer-long tunnel will be built to divert water to the Akodda dam from the Devas Second project. Water will be diverted from the pre-existing Akodda dam and tunnel into Udaipur’s Pichola Lake. The Devas Fourth project includes the construction of a dam with a capacity of 390 MCF near Ambawa village in Gogunda tehsil, which will be connected to the Devas Third dam via a 4.15-kilometer-long tunnel.
During the site visit, the Chief Engineer reviewed the progress, quality, and timely implementation of the construction work. Officials informed him that the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change in New Delhi has granted in-principle approval for the return of forest land under the Devas Third and Fourth projects, along with necessary conditions. The department is currently taking necessary actions to comply with these conditions.
The process of land acquisition for private land has begun, with compensation distribution initiated under the award decision issued by the land acquisition officer of Gogunda. Additionally, a special relief package for the remaining affected families is currently under process.
During the inspection, the Chief Engineer directed that all basic amenities should be provided to families affected by the project to ensure that no family is deprived of essential services.
