Jaipur Police Denies Zero FIR in Ritu Barala Case, Congress Leaders Plan Legal Action

Jaipur, October 21: Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal has refused to file a Zero FIR in the alleged assault and misconduct case involving NSUI National Secretary Ritu Barala. On Wednesday, he provided a written explanation to Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, detailing the reasons for not registering the FIR. Following this, Congress ended their protest, which lasted approximately 42 hours, and announced plans to take the matter to court.

On Wednesday morning, around 10:30 AM, Commissioner Mittal met with Dotasra and other leaders who were protesting in the commissioner’s office. By 11:30 AM, two police officials delivered the commissioner’s response to Dotasra, and at approximately 12:30 PM, the commissioner handed over a written letter explaining the decision not to file a Zero FIR.

The full details of the reasons provided in the letter have not yet been disclosed. The Jaipur Police had previously stated in a press release that an FIR (291/2026) regarding the incident had already been registered at Connaught Place Police Station in Delhi, which includes Ritu Barala’s complaint. Therefore, they deemed it inappropriate to file a separate FIR in Jaipur based on the same facts.

After exiting the commissioner’s office, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Julie announced that since the police commissioner denied filing the FIR, Congress would seek judicial intervention. He also mentioned that legal steps would be taken to file an FIR against the Delhi Police.

The BJP has also indicated the possibility of pursuing legal action. BJP State President Madan Rathore suggested that protests should be held at the site of the incident and that an FIR could also be filed through a petition.

Ritu Barala criticized the police’s inaction, alleging that the FIR was not filed due to government pressure, labeling it a failure of the ruling party.

After the protest concluded, Dotasra emerged to chants of support from party workers. However, he urged them to refrain from chanting his name and instead to shout slogans in favor of Rahul Gandhi, who reportedly advised Dotasra to ensure the FIR was registered in Jaipur.
