NEET UG 2025: Aadhaar Mismatch Could Lead to Disqualification – Face Recognition Now Mandatory

NEW DELHI April 13, 2025: With the NEET UG 2025 exam scheduled for May 4, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has tightened verification protocols, warning that any mismatch in Aadhaar details could lead to disqualification. For the first time, face recognition technology will also be implemented at exam centres to eliminate impersonation and ensure transparency in one of India’s most competitive medical entrance tests.

NEET UG 2025

No Exam Without Aadhaar Match

The NTA has made it clear: candidates whose Aadhaar details do not match during the on-site verification will be barred from appearing for NEET UG 2025. In addition, face match technology will be used to verify the identity of candidates at the entry point. Failure in biometric or facial verification will lead to immediate disqualification.

This move comes in response to increasing reports of exam malpractice, particularly impersonation cases that have plagued NEET UG in previous years.

What Triggered the Stricter Rules?

The decision follows several fraud incidents from Bihar, where the CBI registered a case in January 2025 involving four candidates who allegedly sent impersonators to take the NEET exam on their behalf. To prevent such security breaches, the NTA has made Aadhaar authentication and face recognition mandatory in 2025.

Important Dates to Remember

  • Exam City Slip Release: April 26, 2025

  • Admit Card Availability: May 1, 2025

  • NEET UG 2025 Exam Date: May 4, 2025

  • Bihar Exam Centres: 35 cities, over 105 centres.

New Guidelines for Exam Centres

To further secure the exam environment, the NTA has directed that only government buildings be used as exam centres. Private institutions, especially CBSE-affiliated schools, have been excluded due to past paper leak concerns. All exam centres will be under CCTV surveillance and equipped with advanced ID verification systems.

How to Avoid Disqualification on Exam Day

Candidates must:

  • Ensure Aadhaar details exactly match those on the NEET application form

  • Update Aadhaar card well in advance if any discrepancies exist

  • Be ready for real-time face recognition on exam day

  • Carry valid photo ID and printed admit card

Early preparation and verification will help avoid any last-minute issues at the test centre.

Why Face Recognition Is Crucial This Year

The introduction of facial recognition adds a second, high-level layer of security. By comparing the candidate’s live facial data to official records and Aadhaar-linked photos, NTA aims to:

  • Detect and prevent impersonation attempts

  • Ensure only genuine candidates appear for the exam

  • Maintain the integrity of the examination process.
