Noida, March 28: The inauguration of the first phase of Noida International Airport and the groundbreaking of the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility has marked a significant milestone. Industry leaders, administrative officials, and experts from various sectors gathered for this historic event, highlighting its importance.
Bob Chee, CEO of Singapore’s SATS Limited, and filmmaker Boney Kapoor described the project as a pivotal step towards shaping India’s future. They emphasized that this initiative is not merely an airport but a comprehensive development model that will provide the country with a new identity on the global stage. Chee noted that this achievement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership will connect Noida and Uttar Pradesh to the world.
Being part of this historic project is a matter of pride for the Singaporean company. Chee stressed that the airport is becoming a hub for international investment and global enthusiasm. Kapoor added that he is not just contributing to development but actively participating in it. He is working on developing an International Film City, which, along with the airport, will establish the region as a new economic and cultural center.
T.S. Dupare, MD and CEO of Indian Oil Skytanking Private Limited, shared that their company secured a contract in 2022 to develop fuel farms and in-plane fueling services. After a competitive selection process, they are now ready with the country’s most modern fuel farm to supply aircraft.
Lalit Thukral, president of the Noida Apparel Export Cluster, stated that the inauguration of Jewar Airport will be immensely beneficial for Noida and the entire nation. The airport is set to develop into a major cargo hub and an aircraft maintenance center, boosting the export industry and enhancing global trade competitiveness.
Debashish Meshram, CGM of the State Bank of India, announced that two branches have been established within the airport complex—one at the airport office and another at the cargo center. Facilities include ATMs, cash deposit machines, an e-lobby, and services through the YONO app. A 24-hour forex counter and a travel card supporting over 18 currencies will also be available for international travelers.
Former Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Brijesh Narayan Singh highlighted that the land acquisition for this project was the fastest and most cost-effective in the country. The process was completed with the consent of farmers, marking a unique achievement. Despite initial disagreements, dialogue and coordination led to farmer support, making them key partners in the project.
Subhash Goyal, chairman of the Aviation and Tourism Committee, pointed out that the lack of slots at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has created challenges for new airlines. Jewar Airport will address this issue, benefiting Delhi, Agra, and other regions in Uttar Pradesh.
The development of a rapid metro or express line between Delhi and Jewar, along with improved connectivity and nearby hotel facilities, is essential. Security officer Maimullah Ansari noted significant changes in the project over the past three years and expressed pride in being part of it. This airport is poised to create substantial employment opportunities and is on track to become Asia’s largest airport.
He urged investors to consider investing in this region, especially with upcoming projects like the Film City in mind. Noida International Airport is emerging not just as an airport but as a multi-faceted development project. Experts from various sectors view it as a strong pillar for the future economy, encompassing industry, exports, tourism, film, banking, and employment. The consensus among industry leaders signals that Jewar is taking robust steps towards becoming one of India’s most significant global hubs.
