Opposition Leader Criticizes Central Governments Stance on Mangarh Dham

Jaipur, August 4: Opposition Leader Tikaram Julie has strongly criticized the central government’s stance on declaring Mangarh Dham a national monument. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of betraying the dignity and historical sacrifices of the tribal community.

Julie highlighted that the written response provided by the central government in Parliament reveals the BJP’s true position. According to him, the government has disregarded the sentiments of the tribal community by deeming Mangarh Dham ineligible for national monument status.

He emphasized that Mangarh Dham is a significant symbol of tribal consciousness and the freedom struggle. Julie referenced the sacrifices made by tribal leaders under Govind Guru’s leadership in 1913. He insisted that the sacrifices at Mangarh Dham should not be confined to regional history but should receive national recognition and respect.

Julie raised concerns regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier promises made during his visit to Mangarh Dham, where he pledged significant development for the site. He pointed out the BJP’s election manifesto, which announced plans to transform it into a grand tribal destination.

The Opposition Leader alleged that contrary to these electoral promises, the central government has now excluded the site from national monument eligibility. This accusation from Julie is political, and the response from the BJP or the central government will be crucial.

Julie also targeted the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, led by Central Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat from Rajasthan. He questioned why the BJP MPs and ministers from Rajasthan failed to advocate effectively for this issue before the central government.

Julie posed three questions to the BJP MPs and central ministers from Rajasthan. First, he asked why they did not raise their voices regarding this issue tied to tribal identity. Secondly, he inquired about a recommendation made in 2022 regarding Mangarh Dham’s national significance, questioning why no decision had been made on the matter for four years. Lastly, he asked when the promise of making it a ‘tribal destination’ as mentioned in the manifesto would be fulfilled, and whether it would be treated merely as an electoral promise.

He urged the central government to reconsider its stance on Mangarh Dham, advocating for the site to be honored as a national monument to respect the sacrifices of the tribal community. Julie also called for a joint plan from both the central and state governments for the preservation, documentation of history, and development of basic and tourism facilities at Mangarh Dham.

The issue of Mangarh Dham not receiving national monument status is likely to intensify political debates, following statements from Rajkumar Rot and now Opposition Leader Tikaram Julie. Tribal organizations and local representatives may also demand a reconsideration of the decision and a special heritage project for Mangarh Dham.
