PM Modis Timeless Tribute to Womens Empowerment on International Womens Day

New Delhi, March 8: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s past remarks about women’s status in India have resurfaced, sparking discussions. He emphasized that women in India have historically been revered, not viewed as inferior.

A video shared by ‘Modi Archive’ on the social media platform X features Modi speaking at a gathering in 2003 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. In his address, he noted, “It took over a century for some of the world’s oldest democracies, like the United States, to grant women the right to vote, whereas India did so in 1947.”

The post highlighted that this was before the implementation of laws and policies, including the Women’s Reservation Bill, which reserves 33% of seats for women in Parliament. Modi questioned why women’s empowerment should be limited to the family and not extend to village councils, districts, or any decision-making rooms.

In another segment, he presented a perspective on civilization, stating that India has historically regarded women as divine, unlike any other tradition worldwide. He remarked that women are seen as embodiments of deities like Amba, Durga, Saraswati, and Lakshmi, each revered in society.

Earlier, on Sunday, PM Modi remarked on International Women’s Day, stating, “Women are shaping India’s progress in every field with their determination, creativity, and unique enthusiasm. Their achievements inspire our nation and strengthen our collective resolve to build a ‘developed India’.”

He further posted on X, “Women’s empowerment is at the heart of our various schemes and initiatives. We are committed to creating opportunities for every woman to realize her full potential and contribute to India’s development journey. The achievements of Indian women are a source of pride and a reminder of their transformative role in nation-building. As India progresses, women’s aspirations and contributions will continue to guide our collective journey towards a strong and prosperous nation.”
