Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma Challenges Congress Over Election Commission Allegations

Jaipur, September 27: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has accused the Congress party of tarnishing the image of the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. During a press conference at the BJP state office in Jaipur on Sunday, he emphasized that any serious allegations against a constitutional body should be backed by verified facts. He urged Congress to publicly present documents supporting their claims.

‘Decisions Made with Consensus of All Three Election Commissioners’

Sharma stated that Congress had claimed there were disagreements within the Election Commission regarding the SIR. According to him, a joint clarification issued by the Commission on September 26 confirmed that major decisions, including the SIR, were made with the consensus of all three election commissioners. He questioned whether Congress would reconsider its allegations following this clarification.

Concerns Over Letter to Cabinet Secretary and Form-6

Referring to a letter sent to the Cabinet Secretary, the Chief Minister noted that it was presented in connection with the SIR, although the Commission clarified that it pertained to an internal matter involving an officer on deputation. He also challenged Congress to provide official documents regarding their claims of alleged changes in Form-6.

‘Discussion Needed on Adding Names’

Sharma emphasized the importance of discussions on accurately updating the voter list and adding eligible individuals’ names. He highlighted efforts to reach out to homeless and labor voters, as well as initiatives for booth-level officials to collect forms door-to-door.

Targeting Rahul Gandhi and Congress

The Chief Minister accused Rahul Gandhi and Congress of questioning constitutional institutions following electoral defeats. He stated that while political dissent is a part of democracy, those making allegations should also present their evidence. Advising Congress to engage with the public, he asserted that when facts come to light, the people will make their own judgments.
