Tensions Rise in Udaipur After Fatal Road Accident

Udaipur, March 28: Tensions escalated in Udaipur‘s Vallabhnagar area following a road accident on Friday night. The family of a deceased youth refused to perform his last rites, demanding compensation and staging a protest. Approximately 300 villagers insisted on transporting the body in an ambulance to the home of the tractor owner involved in the accident.

Police intervened and halted the ambulance mid-route, prompting villagers to sit on the road and chant slogans. A heated exchange occurred between police and women from the community, with one woman expressing their demand for justice. In response to the situation, police deployed forces from four nearby stations to maintain order.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred on Nawanian Road, where a tractor-trailer collided head-on with a motorcycle, seriously injuring three young men. They were rushed to a hospital, but 20-year-old Rudra Nagda, son of Amra Nagda, succumbed to his injuries. The other two injured, Tarun Suthar (23) and Shivlal Gurjar (30), are receiving treatment at a private hospital in Udaipur.

According to ASI Ramesh Jat, all three young men were riding the same motorcycle when they collided with the oncoming tractor-trailer. Family members revealed that two of the youths were heading to Hyderabad for jobs, while the third was accompanying them. The deceased, Rudra Nagda, worked at a tire company in Hyderabad.

On Saturday, after the post-mortem, the family attempted to return home with the body. However, the villagers’ anger erupted, and they insisted on taking the body to the tractor owner’s residence to protest. Police tried to mediate, but the villagers remained firm on their demand for 5 million rupees in compensation.

In light of the escalating tensions, police from Vallabhnagar, Kheroda, Mavli, Fatehnagar, and Bhinder were deployed to the scene. Ongoing discussions between police officials and the family and villagers are aimed at resolving the situation.

ASI Ramesh Jat confirmed that the demands of the family have been communicated to higher authorities, and the situation is under control. The final rites will be conducted in the presence of police once an agreement is reached.

Meanwhile, villagers have filed a report against the tractor owner at the local police station. Authorities have seized both the tractor and the motorcycle, and efforts are underway to locate the tractor driver.
