Training Program Boosts Maize Production in Badwai Akola-Sava Village

Chittorgarh, March 29: A one-day training program aimed at enhancing maize production was held in Badwai Akola-Sava village, organized by the Indian Institute of Maize Research (IIMR) under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Over 115 farmers participated enthusiastically in the event.

During the training, IIMR Young Professional Shankar Lal Chaudhary emphasized that maize has evolved from being merely a food crop to a significant industrial crop.

Currently, approximately 10 to 12 million tons of maize are utilized for ethanol production in the country, a figure that needs to increase to boost farmers’ incomes and strengthen the nation’s biofuel policy.

Chaudhary provided detailed information on advanced maize production techniques, particularly focusing on fertilizer and irrigation management. He highlighted the crucial role of post-harvest management in improving maize quality and productivity.

Project Manager and Senior Scientist Dr. S. L. Jat noted that the demand for maize is steadily rising due to the Indian government’s ethanol policy. He projected that maize production in the country is expected to exceed 50 million tons by 2025-26, with Rajasthan playing a vital role.

At the end of the program, farmers shared their experiences related to maize production and sought solutions from the experts.
