
Jaipur, October 8: Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep sorrow over the passing of actor Nana Patekar. He took to social media on Thursday morning to share the news, stating that the demise of the legendary actor, who made significant contributions to Hindi and Marathi cinema and was a recipient of the Padma Shri, is profoundly saddening.
The Chief Minister described Patekar as a “dedicated actor” and an “unparalleled patriot,” highlighting his military service. He referred to Patekar’s death as an irreplaceable loss for both the Indian arts community and the nation.
“The news of the passing of the great actor Nana Patekar, who was honored with the Padma Shri, is extremely tragic,” the Chief Minister wrote. “He was not only a dedicated actor but also an unparalleled patriot. During the Kargil War in 1999, he served as an honorary captain in the Indian Territorial Army. His departure is an irreplaceable loss for the Indian arts community and the nation. His powerful performances, vibrant personality, and commitment to social causes will always be unforgettable.”
He also prayed for the departed soul, asking for divine grace and strength for the grieving family and fans to bear this immense sorrow. “Om Shanti!” he concluded.
Kargil War and Territorial Army Mentioned
The Chief Minister’s post referenced Patekar’s service in the Territorial Army during the Kargil War, where he was honored with the title of honorary captain. Records indicate that Patekar was closely associated with the Indian Territorial Army for many years, serving alongside the Maratha Light Infantry during the Kargil conflict. He retired in 2013 with the rank of honorary lieutenant colonel. Prior to this, in 1991, he directed the film “Prahaar,” which was based on military themes, and underwent military training for its preparation.
Patekar Passed Away in Goa
Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 75. He was found unresponsive at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. According to doctors, despite receiving CPR for approximately 45 minutes, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead around 5:20 AM. The case has been registered as a medical-legal case (MLC) and is set for a post-mortem examination.
Patekar was a recipient of three National Film Awards and was honored with the Padma Shri in 2013.
