Udaipur, April 7, 2025 A high-level training program on Natural Farming was organized today at the Directorate of Research, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT) in Udaipur. The session brought together key officials from the National Seeds Corporation offices in Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Jaitsar, and Suratgarh.

Goal: 100% Chemical-Free Grain Production
In his inaugural address, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ajit Kumar Karnataka stated that the foundation of any farming system lies in quality seeds, and for natural farming, seeds prepared through natural processes are vital.
“Our goal is to produce food grains entirely free of chemicals,” he emphasized.
“While the Green Revolution increased production, it came at a cost—adverse effects on nature and human health due to excessive chemical usage.”
He advocated a shift towards sustainable and traditional farming methods, stating:
“Working in harmony with nature is our culture; going against it leads to disaster.”
Dr. Karnataka further added that by integrating new dimensions into natural farming, it can be made more acceptable and accessible to Indian farmers.
Scientific Clarity Needed to Dispel Myths
Dr. Shantikumar Sharma, Assistant Director General of Human Resource Management, ICAR, New Delhi, served as the special guest. He acknowledged that many misconceptions about natural farming persist and stressed the need to address them through evidence-based research.
“The concept of natural farming is not new. Now is the time to promote and implement it effectively in society,” said Dr. Sharma.
“If immediate efforts for chemical-free farming are not undertaken, the consequences for the environment will be devastating.”
He also shared insights on national and international efforts currently underway to support and promote natural agriculture.
