Udaipur Sees Record Tourist Footfall in February

Udaipur, March 12, 2026 (Daily Udaipur): Despite being considered the off-season for tourism, Udaipur recorded a new tourism milestone in February this year. A total of 1,80,957 tourists visited the Lake City during the month, including 1,56,000 domestic and 24,957 foreign visitors. This marks the first time in the past 17 years that tourist arrivals in February have crossed the 1.80 lakh mark.

Tourist Footfall

However, compared to January, the overall number of tourists declined by 63,601. The drop was mainly due to a decrease in domestic tourist arrivals, while the number of foreign tourists increased during the same period.

In January, the city had recorded 2.25 lakh domestic tourists and 19,558 foreign visitors. In comparison, February saw a reduction of around 69,000 domestic tourists, but the number of foreign tourists rose by 5,399.

The first week of January typically witnesses a surge in tourist activity due to New Year celebrations, which results in higher domestic tourist arrivals during that month.

Tourism activity is expected to remain strong in March due to festival tourism. A large number of foreign tourists are likely to visit Udaipur to participate in the Gangaur Festival. March will mark the final month of the tourism season, after which the off-season will begin in April. From that point, the number of foreign tourists is expected to decline before rising again from September.

Officials noted that the absence of any major festival in February kept domestic tourist numbers relatively lower. Even so, the overall tourist count crossed the 1.80 lakh mark for the first time in February in the past 17 years.

Data from previous years also shows a steady rise in tourism numbers after the pandemic period. During the COVID-19 years, foreign tourist arrivals dropped sharply. In 2021, only 341 foreign tourists visited Udaipur, while in 2022 the number was 1,185.

The recovery began in 2023, when 15,378 foreign tourists arrived in the city. This number increased to 21,563 in 2024 and 24,566 in 2025. In 2026, foreign tourist arrivals have further risen to 24,957 in February.
