Ranchi, March 28: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan visited the ancestral village of tribal leader Birsa Munda in Khunti district, Jharkhand, on Saturday, paying tribute to the iconic figure.
He offered floral tributes at the statue of Birsa Munda and later engaged in discussions with his descendants and family members.
Describing the visit as deeply emotional, the Vice President stated that Birsa Munda’s life continues to inspire the youth of the nation, and his sacrifices have redirected the course of India’s freedom struggle. He noted that this was his first visit to the revered birthplace of ‘Dharti Aba’ since taking office.
Recalling his previous visit to Ulihatu during his tenure as the Governor of Jharkhand, he emphasized the significance of that experience and affirmed that Birsa Munda’s legacy will guide future generations.
He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration of November 15 as Tribal Pride Day in 2021, marking Birsa Munda’s birthday, as a step towards enhancing national awareness of tribal heritage.
While discussing initiatives for tribal welfare, the Vice President specifically mentioned the PM-JANMAN scheme aimed at protecting and empowering Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), underscoring the government’s focus on inclusive development.
He stressed the need for greater awareness of the contributions and struggles of tribal freedom fighters during the ‘Amrit Kaal,’ as it reflects the rights and dignity for which Birsa Munda fought.
During the visit, the Vice President interacted with local villagers, who warmly welcomed him with a traditional ‘Johar’ greeting. Enthusiastic crowds gathered in Ulihatu and surrounding areas to welcome him.
Extensive security arrangements were made for the visit. Also present were Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, and State Minister Irfan Ansari.
