Bhopal, February 8 : A renewed cold wave has gripped Madhya Pradesh as icy winds from the west-northwest sweep across the state. The chilly conditions have led to a sharp drop in temperatures by up to 5 degrees Celsius in several districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain. The entire state is experiencing cold wave conditions, making both days and nights significantly colder.
On Friday, strong winds added to the biting cold, and similar weather conditions are expected on Saturday, with cold winds continuing throughout the day. However, from Sunday onwards, a slight relief from the cold is expected.

Temperature Drops Across the State
Cold weather has intensified across Madhya Pradesh over the past three days, bringing night temperatures below 10°C and daytime temperatures below 25°C.
In the past 24 hours, the coldest districts in the state included:
- Rajgarh, Raisen, Dhar, Shajapur, Sehore, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Chhatarpur, Umaria, and Shahdol all experiencing severe cold wave conditions.
- Moderate cold waves were recorded in Bhopal, Vidisha, Jhabua, Agar Malwa, Guna, Datia, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Satna, Maihar, Mauganj, Singrauli, and Anuppur.
- Night temperatures dropped below 10°C in Kalyanpur, Rajgarh, Khajuraho, Nowgong, Tikamgarh, Guna, Satna, Dhar, Pachmarhi, and Mandla.
- Major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Gwalior also witnessed a dip in minimum temperatures, ranging from 10.2°C to 12°C.
Strong Winds Add to the Chill
Winds blowing at 30 kmph intensified the chill across Madhya Pradesh. In Bhopal, wind speeds reached 15-17 kmph, while Indore, Gwalior, and Ujjain also saw strong gusts, further reducing the apparent temperature.
Daytime Temperatures Take a Dip
On Friday, Bhopal recorded the coldest day in the state, with the maximum temperature dropping by 4.4°C in a single day, settling at 23.2°C.
Other districts with significantly low maximum temperatures included:
- Raisen: 23.5°C
- Rewa: 23.8°C
- Pachmarhi: 24.4°C
- Satna: 24.9°C
- Dhar, Narsinghpur, Damoh: 25°C
In major cities:
- Gwalior: 25.4°C
- Indore: 24.8°C
- Ujjain: 26°C
- Jabalpur: 24.4°C
Cold Conditions Expected to Persist
The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that cold wave conditions will persist for the next 48 hours, with both day and night temperatures remaining low. However, a gradual increase in temperature is expected from Sunday onwards, bringing slight relief from the current cold spell.
