CUET UG 2025: NTA Revises Accountancy Paper Pattern, Introduces Optional Unit and Retake Option

New Delhi | May 21, 2025 — In a key update for students appearing in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2025, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the exam pattern for the Accountancy paper, offering added flexibility and a fairer evaluation system. The change comes in response to student feedback following the first phase of the examination.

CUET UG 2025

Major Change: Optional Unit in Accountancy

The revised pattern, effective May 22, 2025, allows candidates to choose between Unit V (Computerised Accounting Systems) and an optional alternative unit. This is expected to ease pressure on students who may not have prepared extensively for computer-based accounting modules and have instead focused on traditional topics.

The decision was taken after several students who appeared for the exam between May 13 and May 16 expressed concerns over the structure of the paper. Following academic consultations, the NTA implemented the changes to “maintain parity and fairness for all candidates.”

Retake Option for Early Examinees

In a student-friendly move, NTA has also announced that candidates who took the Accountancy paper between May 13 and May 16 can opt to retake the revised version of the paper. These students will have the option to retain their original score or choose the new score—whichever is higher.

To avail this option, candidates must confirm their decision on the official CUET portal at cuet.nta.nic.in. No automatic re-allotment will occur; action must be taken within the prescribed deadline.

CUET 2025 in CBT Mode, Optional Questions Removed

The NTA further clarified that all CUET UG 2025 exams will continue to be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Additionally, optional questions have been eliminated across all subjects, bringing CUET in line with other national entrance tests like NEET and JEE.

What Candidates Should Do Now

  • Review the updated Accountancy syllabus and exam pattern carefully.

  • If eligible for a retake, evaluate your performance before opting in.

  • Use mock tests and resources available on the official CUET website for preparation.

  • Stay updated with any further notifications via cuet.nta.nic.in.

This update marks a significant step by the NTA to improve exam fairness and adaptability, ensuring that all candidates, regardless of background, have an equitable shot at success in CUET UG 2025.
