National Lok Adalat Launched in Hamirpur: A Step Towards Accessible Justice

Hamirpur, May 10:
The National Lok Adalat, organized under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority and the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority, was inaugurated today at the Hamirpur District Court. The event was launched by District Judge Manoj Kumar Rai, who cut the ribbon, lit the ceremonial lamp, and paid tribute to Goddess Saraswati.

Key judicial figures attended the event, including Arun Kumar Mall, the presiding officer of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, and Prabhu Narayan Pandey, Chief Justice of the Family Court. Also present were prominent lawyers like Maniram Verma, president of the Progressive Bar Association, and Ashwani Kumar Prajapati, secretary of the District Bar Association.

In his address, Judge Rai urged bank and department officials to prioritize public interest. He emphasized the importance of adopting a practical approach to ensure the swift and amicable resolution of cases, allowing victims and needy individuals to access effective justice.

Chief Justice Pandey highlighted that settlements in family courts represent mutual trust and understanding, promoting harmony and preventing family breakdowns. Vandana Agarwal, secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, described the Lok Adalat as a grand celebration of justice and social harmony, encouraging full cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure its success.

The event concluded with Rajiv Kumar Dvitiya, the nodal officer of the Lok Adalat, expressing gratitude to all attendees, including lawyers, judicial officers, and departmental officials. A selfie point was also set up at the court premises, attracting participants eager to capture memories of this significant event.

During the Lok Adalat, a substantial number of cases were resolved amicably. A total of 4,375 cases were settled in various courts, while the revenue department resolved 11,208 cases. According to Sangam Lal Mishra, the lead bank manager of Indian Bank in Hamirpur, 417 out of 21,578 pending pre-litigation cases were settled. Overall, the Lok Adalat successfully resolved 16,188 cases.

The event generated over ₹2.12 crore from settlements in the bank and revenue department, with an additional ₹2.29 crore from resolved court cases. In total, approximately ₹4.42 crore was achieved through these agreements.

Notably, a long-standing land dispute that was pending in the district judge’s court was resolved through mutual agreement, bringing satisfaction to both parties involved. Similar resolutions occurred in family court cases, allowing many families to embark on new beginnings.

Various departments, including Agriculture, Health, and Mission Shakti, set up awareness and demonstration stalls that received positive feedback from the public, enhancing the event’s outreach.

📈 Impact: The successful resolution of such a high volume of cases demonstrates the effectiveness of Lok Adalats in providing accessible justice. This initiative not only alleviates the backlog in courts but also fosters a culture of amicable settlements, which is crucial for community harmony.

🔮 Future Outlook: As Lok Adalats gain popularity, we can expect more frequent events aimed at resolving disputes amicably. This trend could lead to significant improvements in the efficiency of the judicial system.

Why this matters to you: The National Lok Adalat is a vital step towards making justice accessible for all. It ensures that individuals can resolve their disputes without lengthy court processes, promoting peace and understanding within communities.
