Jagan Reddy Accuses CM Naidu of Politicizing Tirumala Temple

Amaravati, March 4: YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of using the Tirumala Temple for his political gains.

In a recent statement, Reddy claimed that Naidu lacks both devotion to God and integrity in managing temples. He expressed concern that Naidu’s actions reflect a lack of commitment, honesty, and integrity in handling matters related to such sacred institutions.

Through a social media post, the former Chief Minister criticized recent developments around the temple and condemned Naidu’s leadership. The administration of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which oversees the temple where millions worship Lord Venkateswara as a living deity, is a highly sacred responsibility.

Reddy stated, “Such a holy institution should be managed by individuals of impeccable character, unwavering devotion, honesty, and commitment.” He accused Naidu of turning this sacred position into a platform for selfish political interests.

Instead of preserving the temple’s dignity and sanctity, decisions made under Naidu’s leadership have tarnished the institution’s reputation. Reddy referenced recent allegations against TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu, noting that prior to elections, a woman had written to Chandrababu Naidu claiming that the current TTD chairman had deceived her and jeopardized her life.

In her complaint, she stated that women seeking even minor assistance were harassed. Reddy emphasized that as a responsible leader, Naidu should have ordered an investigation into these serious allegations and taken appropriate action. Instead, he ignored these claims and retained the same individual as TTD chairman, compromising the temple’s sanctity and respect.

“Anyone with true devotion to Lord Venkateswara would never make such a decision. If there were a genuine commitment to preserving the temple’s sanctity, such appointments would not occur,” Reddy added. He further pointed out that this situation once again demonstrates Naidu’s lack of devotion, integrity, and even basic reverence for God.

Reddy also highlighted negligence in the quality of ghee used for making Tirumala laddus. During Naidu’s tenure, TTD labs rejected certain consignments of ghee for failing quality standards. Nevertheless, those same low-quality ghee tankers were later allowed back into TTD under different names during his administration, ultimately being used in the preparation of the laddus.

Reddy noted, “The CBI-SIT charge sheet clearly outlines this. The first charge sheet mentions it on pages 64 and 91, while the final charge sheet references it again on page 44. These findings clearly indicate negligence and a lack of seriousness in preserving the sanctity of the temple’s offerings.”

The former Chief Minister accused Naidu of attempting to shift blame onto others regarding the Tirumala laddu issue while simultaneously creating political controversy around it.

He remarked, “Another troubling aspect is the price of ghee. Between 2014 and 2019, the purchase price for TTD was approximately between ₹278 and ₹330 per kilogram. During the period from 2019 to 2024, the average price remained in a similar range. However, under Naidu’s leadership, contracts were structured in a way that benefited a manufacturing company linked to his heritage group, Indapur Dairy, while making false allegations about ghee quality and creating political disputes. In 2025, this company allegedly supplied ghee to TTD at a price of approximately ₹658 per kilogram, turning the temple’s procurement into a source of private profit.”

Reddy concluded, “These developments raise serious concerns. They demonstrate that Naidu lacks both devotion to the deity and integrity in Temple Administration. His actions reflect a deficiency in commitment, honesty, and truthfulness in handling matters related to such sacred institutions.”
