UDAIPUR, March 8 (Daily Udaipur) — Police conducted a late-night crackdown against the illegal serving of hookah in posh areas of Udaipur, raiding four major restaurants and seizing a large quantity of hookah equipment and flavoured substances.

The operation was carried out by the District Special Team (DST), which simultaneously raided four locations in different police station areas. The action was taken following strict instructions from SP Yogesh Goyal.
The raids were conducted at Greek Farm in Badgaon, Friends John in Sukher, Udaipur Hikes in Ambamata, and Hotel Wonder View at Amrai Ghat. During the operation, police seized 26 Hookahs, around 45 pipes, and more than 68 packets of intoxicating flavours from these establishments.
Police had been receiving information for a long time about the growing trend of hookah use among youth and its illegal serving in restaurants across the city. Acting on this input, the special team laid a trap and conducted simultaneous raids at the four locations.
The sudden police action created panic among restaurant operators, and several people were seen attempting to flee from the spot during the raids.
The largest recovery was made from Greek Farm Restaurant in the Badgaon police station area. During the raid, police seized 13 hookahs, 20 pipes, and 30 flavour packets from the premises. In this case, police have named Nirmal Meghwal, a resident of Swaroopganj (Sirohi), as the operator.
Similarly, four hookahs and 12 flavour packets were recovered from Friends John Restaurant in the Sukher area, and a case has been registered against Rajendra Singh.
At Udaipur Hikes Restaurant located in Kurabad Hills under Ambamata police station limits, police recovered three hookahs and six flavour packets. It is being said that local residents had complained about the restaurant several times earlier, but no action had been taken.
Meanwhile, from Hotel Wonder View at Amrai Ghat under Ambamata police station, police seized six hookahs and 20 flavour packets and named operator Shantilal as an accused.
SP Yogesh Goyal said that the campaign will continue and strict action will be taken to curb such activities as part of efforts to make the city free from intoxicating substances.
