Udaipur, March 14: A significant initiative has been launched to nurture swimming talent in Udaipur, with a residential training camp for 160 selected athletes from across the district. This program is part of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma’s innovative Panch Gaurav initiative, which aims to yield positive and long-term results in sports development.
Under the guidance of District Collector Namit Mehta, efforts have begun to realize the “One District – One Sport” concept in Udaipur. The camp commenced on Saturday at Maharana Pratap Sports Complex, following a series of talent search competitions held at the block level.
The chief guest at the inauguration was Phoolsingh Meena, the MLA from Udaipur Rural. Other notable attendees included social worker Chandragupt Singh Chouhan, Pramod Samar, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Gaurikant Sharma, Vikramsingh Chandela, Dilip Singh Chouhan, Joint Director of Statistics Puneet Sharma, Kuntal Joshi, Girdharisingh Chouhan, and Pradeep Ravani.
During his address, MLA Meena emphasized that there is no shortage of sports talent in tribal areas. He stated that the key is to provide these athletes with the right opportunities, resources, and guidance. The state government is implementing various schemes to promote sports and uplift rural talent, enabling athletes to shine at state and national levels. Meena expressed confidence in the sporting abilities of young boys and girls from tribal regions, urging them to pursue their goals with discipline, regular practice, and determination.
The training camp not only serves as a robust platform for honing swimming skills in Udaipur but also represents a crucial step in preparing these athletes for state, national, and international competitions. The event was skillfully conducted by Ranveer Singh Ranawat.
Experts to Teach Swimming Techniques
District Sports Officer Dr. Mahesh Paliwal shared that the Rajasthan government organized swimming competitions and talent search programs from March 7 to March 12, 2026, across all panchayat committee headquarters in Udaipur district. Approximately 741 enthusiastic swimmers participated from various blocks, including Badgaon, Girwa, Gogunda, Sayra, Devla, Jhadol, Phalasia, Kotda, Nayagaon, Khairwada, Rishabhdev, Kurabad, Mavli, Bhinder, Vallabhnagar, and Udaipur city.
From these competitions, 10 top swimmers were selected from each block, culminating in a total of 160 talented athletes who will participate in the residential training camp. Notably, around 100 of these selected athletes hail from tribal areas, demonstrating their commitment to shaping their futures through sports despite limited resources.
The training camp will cover advanced swimming techniques such as starts, turns, and finishes, along with fitness and endurance training, speed training, and topics like sports discipline, nutrition, and sports psychology, led by expert trainers.
The district administration and sports department have arranged accommodations, meals, swimming kits, tracksuits, shoes, and socks for the athletes. According to the schedule, daily activities will include morning swimming practice, technical training sessions, theoretical classes, and fitness and skill development activities, ensuring comprehensive athletic development for the participants.
