Jaipur, April 3: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has launched a scathing attack on the BJP government regarding the Constitution Club of Rajasthan in Chapter 12 of his popular series ‘Intazaarshastra’. He accused the government of subjecting this world-class club, modeled after Delhi’s Constitution Club of India, to “politics of revenge,” leading to its neglect despite its potential.
Gehlot emphasized that the club was designed as a democratic platform for Rajasthan’s intellectuals, writers, journalists, and public representatives. He raised concerns about why, despite having modern facilities, the club remained closed for an extended period and why the membership process is not being made transparent and public now that it has reopened.
Highlighting the club’s amenities, Gehlot mentioned that it includes a modern auditorium, meeting halls, a coffee shop, a luxury gym, a restaurant, and VIP guest rooms, making it comparable to five-star facilities. Yet, its usage has been minimal, raising questions about the proper utilization of government resources.
Gehlot further alleged that the BJP government is avoiding activating this platform due to the potential for open and democratic discussions about its policies and shortcomings. He described the situation as a “climate of fear,” asserting that limiting or deactivating such platforms is inappropriate in a democracy.
He pointed out that public funds were used for the club’s construction, which was built with the hard-earned money of the citizens. Neglecting it simply because it was established during the previous Congress government is entirely unjustified. Gehlot warned that if transparency in the use of public properties is not maintained and rules continue to be overlooked, the public will not accept it.
This issue has sparked discussions not only in Jaipur’s political circles but also among writers and journalists. The questions raised about the Constitution Club seem to be igniting a new controversy in the state’s politics.
