BJP Restructures Media Department: Anil Baluni Takes Charge as Communication Coordinator

New Delhi, September 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced significant changes within its central communication and media department. Party President Nitin Nabin has appointed National General Secretary and MP Anil Baluni as the coordinator of the party’s communication department. Meanwhile, Ashish Usha Agarwal has been designated as the new head of the national media department. According to the appointment orders released by the party, both roles take effect immediately.

In this new arrangement, Anil Baluni will oversee the coordination of the party’s extensive communication network. Reports based on the Press Trust of India indicate that the national media and social media units fall under the purview of the communication department. Baluni will be responsible for managing the coordination between the party’s media, social media, and other communication channels.

Anil Baluni to Oversee Entire Communication Network

Anil Baluni previously held the position of head of the BJP’s national media department. His new role expands his responsibilities as he now becomes the coordinator of the communication department. Following this change, Ashish Usha Agarwal has been entrusted with the media department’s leadership.

Baluni, who is also the BJP’s National General Secretary and an MP from Uttarakhand’s Garhwal constituency, has long been involved in media management. A key aspect of his new role will be to ensure coordination among the various communication units of the party.

Ashish Usha Agarwal Appointed National Media Coordinator

Ashish Usha Agarwal, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, has been appointed as the new head of the BJP’s national media department. He was recently made co-coordinator of the same department. During the reorganization of the national team in August 2026, he was assigned the role of national media co-coordinator, and now, just a month later, he has been promoted to coordinator.

Previously, Anil Baluni held this position. With Baluni now coordinating the broader communication department, the media department has been handed over to Agarwal. As the national media coordinator, Agarwal will manage the party’s official media communications, press conferences, spokespersons, and organizational tasks related to media outreach.

Continuous Changes Under Nitin Nabin’s Leadership

These appointments come at a time when BJP President Nitin Nabin has implemented numerous changes at both central and state levels. As part of this organizational reshuffle, the party released a new list of in-charges and co-in-charges for 28 states and eight union territories on September 23.

The list includes Sanjay Bhatia as the in-charge for Rajasthan, with Kavita Patidar and Kuljeet Chahal as co-in-charges. Satish Poonia has been assigned responsibilities for Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, while Sunil Bansal will oversee Telangana and West Bengal.

New Coordination Between Media and Social Media Units

With Anil Baluni taking on the role of coordinator for the communication department, he will facilitate coordination between the media and social media units, while Ashish Usha Agarwal will directly manage the national media department. Earlier in August, the BJP also appointed Deepak Mhaske as the new social media coordinator, indicating ongoing changes within the party’s social media unit.

Thus, the BJP has delineated distinct responsibilities for media, social media, and broader communication structures at the national level. According to party directives, the new responsibilities of Anil Baluni and Ashish Usha Agarwal took effect on September 23, 2026.
