Tonk, October 5: Arun Chaturvedi, former state president of the BJP and chairman of the State Finance Commission, addressed the media after a meeting at the party’s district office in Tonk regarding preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections. The meeting focused on electoral strategy, booth management, and public outreach. Chaturvedi was recently appointed to the Ajmer division election management committee, which comprises 21 leaders responsible for seven divisions in the state.
“Strengthen Organization at Booth Level”
Chaturvedi emphasized that the strength of the BJP lies in the organization and the active role of its workers. He urged party members to engage actively in their areas to fortify the organization at the booth level. “The Panchayat elections are not just about selecting representatives; they are about choosing strong local leadership for village development,” he stated.
He also encouraged workers to inform the public about government schemes and development projects, aiming to connect more people with the organization. Discussions during the meeting included increasing the number of meetings at the Panchayat level, intensifying public outreach campaigns, and assigning election-related responsibilities to officials.
Meeting Highlights
BJP district president Chandravir Singh Chauhan noted that the organization is active in Tonk district and that workers are preparing from the booth to the Panchayat level. Previously, on September 30, state president Madan Rathore had also held a meeting with workers in Tonk, expressing confidence in winning the Panchayat elections while crediting the success of recent local body elections to the dedication of the workers.
Mixed Results in Recent Local Elections
The results of the local elections in September were mixed for the BJP in the district. The party secured a clear majority in five out of ten local bodies, including all four local bodies in the Malpura area, led by Public Health Engineering Minister Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary. However, the Congress managed to retain control of the Tonk Municipal Council, winning 32 out of 59 wards.
Coincidentally, on the same day, Congress organized a significant event in Tonk city, celebrating the victory of newly elected chairperson Mayank Goyal, which was attended by Sachin Pilot. This indicated a day of contrasting activities for both parties in the district—BJP’s organizational meeting and Congress’s victory rally.
Notable Attendees
The meeting featured several prominent leaders, including Cabinet Minister Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary, co-in-charge of the division Vishnu Chetani, district in-charge Ram Anand Gurjar, co-in-charge Shakti Singh, Devli-Uniyara MLA Rajendra Gurjar, Niwai MLA Ramsahay Verma, former MP Sukbir Singh Jaunapuria, and former MLA Ajit Singh Mehta, along with district officials, mandal presidents, front officials, and numerous party workers.
Panchayati Raj elections in Rajasthan will occur in four phases. Voting for district council and Panchayat committee members is scheduled for October 23, October 29, November 4, and November 14, while elections for Panch and Sarpanch will take place on October 25, October 31, November 6, and November 16. Results for district council and Panchayat committee members will be announced on November 20.
