Jaipur, October 7: After a core committee meeting in Congress’s war room, state president Govind Singh Dotasra made serious allegations against the Rajasthan government regarding the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections. He claimed that candidates are being threatened from within the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Dotasra stated, “What could be more unfortunate than candidates being intimidated from inside the CMO? The government is using its power to instill fear in the public and candidates.”
He further asserted that conducting the Panchayati Raj elections in three to four phases and delaying the results is a “well-planned conspiracy” to misuse power and influence the electoral process. Dotasra emphasized that Congress will not be intimidated by such tactics.
Decisions Made in the Meeting
The meeting included senior leaders such as state in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, opposition leader Tikaram Julie, and former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot. They discussed electoral strategies, candidate selection, campaign initiatives, and local issues.
According to Dotasra, Congress leaders and workers will visit villages to present the party’s stance on the BJP government’s tenure, which he referred to as “two and a half years of misgovernance.” The BJP government came to power in Rajasthan on December 15, 2023.
Further Allegations Regarding Local Elections
Dotasra referenced recent local elections, claiming that the vote percentage difference between Congress and BJP was minimal. He noted that Congress performed well in areas like Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, and Pali. He accused the government of misusing police and administrative resources, leading to irregularities in candidate nominations and symbol allocations.
He mentioned that the party has submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commission regarding these incidents and has lodged complaints with the DGP concerning police-related matters. Previously, Congress had formed a nine-member committee led by Dr. C.P. Joshi to investigate alleged cross-voting in local elections.
Congress to Raise ‘Vote Theft’ Issue in Villages
Dotasra indicated that the Congress party will bring the national issue of “vote theft” to the forefront in the Rajasthan Panchayat elections. He also made allegations against the Election Commission and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.
The Panchayati Raj elections in the state are set to occur in four phases, with adjustments made to the schedule due to Dhanteras. Dotasra expressed concerns about the potential misuse of government machinery during the prolonged electoral process.
All these allegations have been made by Congress, and there has been no response yet from the Chief Minister’s Office, state government, or the State Election Commission.
