Congress Leader Criticizes Rajasthan Government Over School Safety Concerns

Jaipur, October 7: Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra has launched a strong critique against the Rajasthan government following a distressing incident at a government school in the Bhinder area of Udaipur. The ceiling plaster of a classroom fell during class hours, raising serious concerns about the safety of school infrastructure. Dotasra expressed his worries on social media, emphasizing that such incidents pose grave questions about the government’s management of educational facilities. He also wished for the swift recovery of the injured children.

“The government is responsible for providing safe school buildings. How long will the safety of children be compromised?” — Govind Singh Dotasra, President of Rajasthan Congress.

Three Demands from the Education Minister

Dotasra has put forth three demands to the Education Minister regarding the dilapidated school buildings across the state. He tagged the Chief Minister‘s office in his post, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

  • Conduct an immediate thorough inspection of all dilapidated school buildings in the state.
  • Ensure safe alternative arrangements for children in areas where buildings are unsafe.
  • Take strict action against responsible officials for negligence.

Referencing Jhalawar and Jaisalmer Incidents

Dotasra questioned what lessons the BJP government has learned from the tragic incidents in Jhalawar, where seven innocent children lost their lives, and in Jaisalmer, where a crumbling school gate resulted in the death of a child. He raised concerns about whether the government waits for such tragedies to address the deteriorating condition of school buildings.

Both incidents occurred in July 2025. In Peepalodi (Jhalawar), the collapse of a government primary school building led to the death of seven children, while in Jaisalmer, a dilapidated school gate fell, killing a nine-year-old student and injuring a teacher. Following the Jaisalmer incident, Education Minister Madan Dilawar directed an investigation and subsequent action.

Dotasra’s Background as Former Education Minister

Dotasra previously held independent charge of the Primary and Secondary Education Department during the last Congress government. He resigned from the ministerial position on November 20, 2021, under the party’s ‘one person, one position’ policy, while retaining his role as state president. He has been the president of the Rajasthan Congress since July 2020.
