Jaipur, October 20: The Jaipur police have denied the request for a Zero FIR in the case involving NSUI National Secretary Ritu Barala. In a press release, the police stated that a complaint had already been filed at the Connaught Place police station in Delhi, and an investigation is ongoing under FIR 291/2026. Protests by Congress demanding a Zero FIR continued on Tuesday, resulting in clashes between activists and police outside the commissionerate.
According to the police, Ritu Barala submitted her complaint at the Connaught Place police station on October 13, the same day as the incident. They emphasized that it is not legally appropriate to file a separate FIR in Jaipur based on the same facts. The police also refuted Barala’s claim that she was unable to file a report in Delhi due to medical treatment, asserting that she had already lodged her complaint that day.
On Tuesday, leaders including Opposition Leader Tikaram Julie led a protest outside the commissionerate, chanting slogans. Clashes ensued, prompting police to use minimal force to disperse the crowd. Julie called for the registration of an FIR and demanded justice for “Rajasthan’s daughter.”
NSUI National President Vinod Jakhar warned that if the police fail to resolve the matter, they would find alternative means to address the issue.
Congress claims that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, urged state president Govind Singh Dotasra to file an FIR in Jaipur. Dotasra arrived at the commissionerate around 6:15 PM on Monday, marking nearly 19 hours of protest by Tuesday afternoon. He, along with former minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas and other leaders, spent the night at the commissionerate, sleeping on mattresses and having breakfast at the protest site.
Dotasra criticized the police, stating, “The police are scared. They are not upholding the law. They are not delivering justice for Rajasthan’s daughter.”
Ritu Barala alleged that not only was she assaulted on the bus by the Delhi police, but she was also beaten after disembarking at Connaught Place. She claimed that seven to eight female police officers assaulted her with sticks at the local police station. Barala stated that while the police could detain her for public disturbance, they should not resort to violence.
She has demanded that FIRs be filed against the concerned station officer and some female police officers involved in the incident. As of now, no FIR has been registered against these officers, and their side of the story has not been presented.
Tensions remain high as the situation unfolds, with calls for accountability and justice echoing from various political leaders and activists.
