Sonia Gandhi Makes Instagram Debut with Book Announcement and Sweet Celebration

New Delhi, October 22: Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi made her debut on Instagram on Thursday, marking her first appearance on any social media platform. Her inaugural post, shared from the handle @soniagandhi, features a video where she showcases the first copies of her upcoming book, “Belonging: A Journey of Love.” Following the launch of her account, her follower count quickly surpassed 10,700.

In the video, Sonia Gandhi is seen sharing sweets with her daughter, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as they celebrate the arrival of the book’s first copies. The two embrace each other joyfully. In her post, she described the book as a narrative of love, duty, loss, and the quest for belonging.

“This is a story of love, duty, loss, and finding one’s place,” Sonia Gandhi stated in her Instagram post.

The book is set to be released worldwide on November 10, just 19 days after her post. In India, it will be published by HarperCollins India, while the global edition will be handled by Alfred A. Knopf. According to HarperCollins India, the book offers an introspective look at India’s journey.

The memoir chronicles Sonia Gandhi’s life from her childhood in Italy to her arrival in India after marrying Rajiv Gandhi. It also reflects on the tragedies that shaped her family, including the deaths of Sanjay Gandhi in a plane crash, the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984, and the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. The publisher notes that the book addresses themes of love, identity, duty, and belonging.

There was previously controversy surrounding the book’s publication, with reports suggesting that Penguin India had declined to publish it due to disagreements over editorial changes. However, Penguin Random House India later denied these claims, stating they were prepared to publish “Belonging” and would not comment further on confidential discussions with the author.
