Guwahati, September 15: Assam Congress has taken significant disciplinary action, expelling 15 leaders and workers from the party for three years due to violations of party discipline. This decision was announced by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday. The party clarified that the action is effective immediately, and the involved leaders will not be part of the organization for the next three years.

The order, issued by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary (Organization) Ramanna Barua, stated that this action was taken under the direction of Pradesh Congress President Gaurav Gogoi. Allegations of organizational discipline violations were made against the expelled leaders.

Several local and organizational figures have been affected by this action. Among those expelled are Hashim Uddin Barbhuiya, Sujit Das, Pooja Das, lawyer Jasim Uddin Laskar, and Hanif Uddin Barbhuiya. All of them have been removed from the party organization for three years.

Additionally, action has been taken against Ali Raza Usmani, the Executive President of the Congress Minority Department. He, along with Fatima Chaudhary, Lovely Begum, Parth Roy, Malavika Chaudhary, Vishwatosh Nag, and Nishith Das, has also been expelled from the party with immediate effect.

The repercussions of this action extend to leaders associated with the Silchar region as well. Noor Islam Barbhuiya, a member of the Silchar District Council, former zonal town president Anupam Pal, and Youth Congress President Janmajay Chaudhary from the Silchar assembly constituency have also been expelled for three years.

The list of expelled leaders indicates that the action is not limited to ordinary workers but also includes those holding responsibilities within the organization and influential local leaders.

This move, directed by Gaurav Gogoi, is seen as an effort to maintain discipline within the party. Amid preparations for assembly and other elections, the Congress leadership appears to be adopting a strict stance on organizational unity and deviations from party lines.

The three-year expulsion period suggests that the party views these matters as more serious than a mere warning or temporary suspension. However, the order did not provide detailed allegations against each individual.

As the Congress party is the primary opposition to the BJP in Assam, expelling a large number of leaders and workers during election preparations sends a clear message that party discipline will not be compromised.

The inclusion of several leaders from Silchar and the Minority Department in this action may also impact local politics. The party now faces the challenge of assigning organizational responsibilities to new leaders and maintaining the support of those associated with the expelled leaders.
