Chaos Erupts During Panchayat Election Counting in Morija

Jaipur, October 25: Tensions flared in Morija village of the Chomu Panchayat Samiti during the counting of votes for the sarpanch elections on Saturday night. Angry villagers, alleging vote theft, pelted stones at the police from the Samod police station. To restore order, the police resorted to a baton charge. The atmosphere in the village remains tense.
A rumor about the tampering of ballot boxes sparked the crowd’s anger. According to Chomu Tehsildar Dr. Vijaypal Vishnoi, an agent spread the false information that the ballot boxes were being changed. This led to a large gathering at the counting site, resulting in the attack on police. The police used minimal force to disperse the crowd and detained 7 to 8 individuals.
Dr. Vishnoi stated, “An agent spread rumors about the ballot boxes being changed. This led to a gathering of people who then attacked the police. We used minimal force. The counting will proceed peacefully.”
The administration has assured that the counting will be conducted smoothly and is closely monitoring the situation. On Saturday, voting took place for sarpanch and ward members across 212 gram panchayats in eight panchayat samitis of Jaipur district. By 6 PM, a voter turnout of 81.53% was recorded in the Chomu Panchayat Samiti, with counting occurring at the respective panchayat headquarters.
