Jaipur, October 21: A Congress delegation arrived at the residences of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma and Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal on Tuesday, demanding the registration of an FIR in the Ritu Barala case. According to the Congress party, no one was available to meet them, nor was any time allotted for a discussion.
The Congress party raised questions about the police’s role in the matter. They inquired why their delegation, seeking justice, was denied a meeting and whether the Rajasthan police would operate under pressure rather than fulfilling their constitutional and legal obligations. The party emphasized that police officials should act impartially as per the law.
“Power is not permanent; accountability to the law is the responsibility of every officer,” stated a release from Congress.
The party asserted that they would not back down until justice is served for Ritu Barala and would demand accountability at every level. No response has been received from the Director General of Police or the Police Commissioner regarding this issue.
On Monday, when Ritu Barala attempted to file an FIR at the police station, she was directed to meet with the police commissioner instead. Following this, Congress leaders gathered at the commissioner’s office and staged a sit-in, which continued into Tuesday.
The Jaipur police had already denied the request for a zero FIR. In a press release, they stated that a complaint regarding this incident had already been filed at the Connaught Place police station in Delhi, and an investigation was underway under FIR 291/2026. Therefore, registering a separate FIR in Jaipur was deemed inappropriate.
