Police Clash with Congress Workers in Jaipur Over Ritu Barala Case

Jaipur, October 20: Tensions escalated in Jaipur last night as police clashed with Congress workers protesting for a zero FIR regarding the alleged assault on NSUI National Secretary Ritu Barala in Delhi. The confrontation occurred around 11 PM outside the Jaipur Police Commissionerate, resulting in injuries to several activists.

The protest had been ongoing since approximately 10 PM, led by Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra and opposition leader Tikaram Julie, who were vocally opposing the police commissioner. Dotasra arrived at the commissionerate around 6:15 PM, meaning the sit-in had lasted nearly 28 hours by the time of the clash. The police have yet to comment on the injuries sustained by the protesters.

During the protest, Dotasra demanded clarity from police officials regarding the possibility of a zero FIR under Section 173(1) of the Indian Criminal Procedure Code. He insisted that the police provide written confirmation on whether such an FIR could be filed in Rajasthan, referencing a similar statement made earlier by former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Frustrated, Dotasra questioned the police about the FIR registered in Delhi, asking where he could find the Jaipur Police Commissioner, only to be told he was “in the BJP’s enclosure.” Vaibhav Gehlot, son of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, also visited the commissionerate on Tuesday evening.

The Jaipur police reiterated their refusal to file a separate FIR, stating that a case had already been registered at Connaught Place police station regarding the events of October 13, which includes Barala’s complaint. Additional Police Commissioner Ajay Singh confirmed that the existing FIR (291/2026) made it unnecessary to file a new one in Jaipur.

According to Congress, Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi had urged Dotasra to ensure an FIR was filed in Jaipur. On Monday night, Dotasra and several leaders spent the night at the commissionerate, and during the day, clashes occurred between police and workers, leading to minor police action.

As the situation unfolds, the Congress party continues to demand justice for Ritu Barala, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency from law enforcement.
